Fire Chief Letter

Welcome to the Austin Volunteer web page. The fire department covers approximately 18 square miles of Lonoke County including the City of Austin.

Our fire district and emergency medical services are provided by a group of highly skilled professional men and women, who pride themselves on quality care. The fire department is staffed 100 % by volunteer in and around our community.  Each are trained to provide EMS services along fire suppression support for our city and surrounding area's.  All of the fire department members are valued, and comprise the heart and soul of our department.

Austin Fire Department has a long history of community involvement. Whether it is to teach our youngest residents on how to respond to a fire situation using the fire safety house, conducting extrication demonstrations, participating in community parades, visiting birthday parties, holding open houses on EMS and Fire Prevention weeks, etc. Everyone at Austin is continually striving to improve public service and remain active in community involvement.

The Austin Community Auxiliary, Fire Department staff and city personal work jointly to provide a community that is a safe place to live, work and play, now and into the future. This is accomplished by providing the highest possible level of fire protection, emergency medical services, life safety and public education through the most efficient use of resources.

As Chief of the Austin Volunteer Fire Department, it is a pleasure to work with dedicated personnel who continually strive to improve their skills and service to the community. I am proud to have the opportunity to lead this organization into the future.

Steve Bettis, Fire Chief
