Public Notice

Notice is hereby given that on April 26, 2021, at 6:30 pm a public hearing to consider proposed sewer rate increase, with a proposed effective date of August 1, 2021, will be held for all interested parties in the Austin City Hall, 3181 Hwy 367 N., Austin, AR 72007.

Sewer Rates (based on water usage)

Currently             $15.00 for the first 1,000 gallons

$3.50 for each 1,000 gallons up to 9,000

$1.50 for each additional 1,000 gal. after

Proposed             $18.50 for the first 1,000 gallons

$5.99 for each 1,000 gallons up to 14,000 gallons

                                $4.00 per 1,000 gallons thereafter

Austin Waterworks recognizes that these are unprecedented and difficult times. This mandatory increase is for wastewater treatment (sewer) only.  Water rates will stay as is.  The increase will be used to construct a modern wastewater treatment facility located at the end of Brewer St, which will be financed with water and sewer revenue bonds.  We currently utilize a lagoon pond system with sand filtration.  The current facility does not pass current or future Arkansas Dept of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) standards.  Users’ of 1000 gallons per month will see an increase of $3.50 per account versus a user that uses on average 4,000 gallons a month will see a $10.97 increase.  Arkansas Natural Resource Commission (ANRC) has set these mandatory rate increases for Austin Waterworks.  The rate increase is to provide the funds necessary to build a new wastewater treatment facility and be able to comply with current and future standards set by ADEQ.  The current sewer rates have not increased since 1981.  Austin Waterworks will be transitioning to radio-based water meters in 2021 at no extra cost.
